Review - James Patterson & John Dipper
24/11/23

What a way to end 2023 at the Everyman Folk Club! Thank you to Patterson Dipper for an entrancing performance on Friday. Their combination of traditional songs, 20th century composers, and poetry set to tunes included Butterworth, Vaughan Williams, A E Houseman, and Thomas Hardy. James’ intricate guitar and bouzouki accompaniments and John’s elegant and empathetic viola d’amore augmented the gorgeous timbre of James’ voice – and the delicate crafting of their arrangements was exquisite. The evening was enriched by John’s stunning tunes on his beautiful viola d’amore made by luthier, Jonathan Hill.

Thank you to last night’s floor singers for your entertaining contributions to the evening - Penny Mackay, Bill Johnston, Steve Danby and Adrian May. Very well done everyone.

And, of course, many thanks to our lovely audience for your wonderful support of the Everyman throughout 2023. We wish you all the very best of the season, and look forward to seeing you next year, when Martyn Wyndham-Read and Iris Bishop are our guests on Friday 26 January 2024.
