Review - Jim Causley
23/02/24

A brilliant evening from Jim Causley at the Everyman Folk Club yesterday. The deep tones of Jim’s distinct bass-baritone voice were polished and mature and, like his gorgeous voice, his heartfelt passion for the Westcountry resonated throughout. Performing tender, romantic, ghostly, and humorous songs, Jim’s interpretations and elegant accompaniments on piano accordion and piano never overpowered the lyrics. His sincerity shone in his settings of poems by his relative, Charles Causley, the traditional music of his home county, and his self-penned songs.

Thank you to all our local performers - Alan Day, Bill Johnston and Sheila Darling, Eammon Andrews, and Terence Blacker – for your enthusiastic and animated monologues, tunes and songs. One each from Steve and Mary too.

We’re very grateful to everyone in our amazing audience – for braving the floods, your remarkable singing, and your treasured support of the club and all the performers. We’re looking forward to seeing you next time, which will be a very Good Friday indeed with George Sansome on Friday 29 March 2024.
